GENERAL SCHOOL QUESTIONS


  • What grades are offered at Crawford International?

    Crawford International offers Grade 0000 – 12. We offer Grade 0000* – 0 at Crawford Pre-Primary, Grade 1 – 7 at Crawford Preparatory, and Grade 8 – 12 at Crawford College.


    Please note: Grade 0000 is offered only at our Bryanston, La Lucia, Lonehill, and Ruimsig campuses

  • How many students are in a class?

    At Crawford International, our small classes ensure individual attention. We limit the number of students per class to 25.

  • How does the fee structure work, and what do the fees include?

    Parents have a choice of paying the school fees upfront for the whole year. Parents who choose to pay the annual amount will receive a discount. Parents also have the option of paying the school fees in monthly instalments for 12 months.


    At Crawford International, we provide an all-inclusive offering to give our students every opportunity to develop holistically. We motivate our students to try new pursuits by offering a variety of opportunities within and beyond the classroom. Most of the sports and cultural activities are included in our school fees.   • Are there additional costs for sports and cultural events?

    At Crawford International, we provide an all-inclusive offering to give our students every opportunity to develop holistically. Most of the sports and cultural activities are included in our school fees. We also offer several private activities to enrich our offering, subject to demand, and at an extra cost to parents.   • How many terms does Crawford have?

    Like most private schools, Crawford International has four terms, which include four school holidays. Parents will be provided with a term calendar at the start of each academic year.

  • What are the requirements for foreign students?

    Foreign students will be provided with a letter to apply for a study visa at the Department of Home Affairs. Without a receipt or valid study permit a child from a foreign country cannot study at Crawford International

  • Does Crawford offer aftercare?

    Yes, we offer aftercare for Grade 0000 – 7 students at some of our schools. Our Aftercare/Adventure Club offers students a safe and secure space after the formal school day where students are free to play. The afternoon is divided into self-directed and teacher-directed play. Our aftercare programme is flexible and structured to suit parents and students. Some of our schools also offer well-balanced meals and snacks during the afternoon. Please note: The Aftercare/Adventure Club is not included in the school fees for all Crawford International Schools. Please get in touch with your school of choice for more information.

  • Does Crawford offer scholarships?

    Crawford International Colleges offer limited scholarship opportunities for students with exceptional academic and sporting achievements. If you would like to apply for a scholarship, please submit your request along with a comprehensive list of your achievements to the school of your choice early in the year and before enrolling at Crawford International.

  • What is your matric pass rate?

  • Does Crawford offer a bus service?

    Yes, our Ruimsig and North Coast campuses offers four bus routes to make getting to and from school a breeze.

  • Does Crawford offer boarding?

    Yes, our North Coast campus in KZN provides boarding for male and female students in Grade 7 – 12. Students live and learn in a safe and secure ‘home-from-home’ environment. At Crawford Boarding, we aim to develop a real sense of community as our students enjoy a supported and guided, extended-family system.   • Do students at Crawford go on tours?

    Yes, Crawford International students go on sports and cultural tours on an annual basis. These tours are subject to demand and are offered at an extra cost to parents. Please get in touch with your school of choice for more information.

  • Is online learning an option?

    Yes, Crawford students have a choice between face-to-face, online, or hybrid learning. All our classrooms are equipped with projectors to facilitate hybrid/remote learning. Our campuses are Wi-Fi enabled, and students can log in via their MS accounts. Crawford teachers offer online classes using either MS Teams or Blackboard Ultra.

  • Are all Crawford teachers qualified?

    Yes, all classroom teachers are qualified professionals registered with the South African Council for Educators (SACE). We select and support teachers who inspire, enthuse, and encourage students to the highest levels of their ability. We continually review and renew our teaching and learning approaches to ensure that the education we provide remains innovative and relevant.

  • What is the difference between the Crawford schools?

    The Crawford ethos is designed to strengthen each student’s unique qualities, be it in academics, select sports or cultural activities. Each of our Crawford schools provides a unique educational offering to cater to our students’ needs.   • What is your policy on bullying?

    At Crawford International we take bullying extremely seriously. Read more about our policy in our Code of Conduct 

  • What is a multiform?

    At Crawford International, we take a unique approach to uniforms. Rather than a uniform, we have a ‘multiform’ that encourages students to make personal decisions around what best suits them as unique individuals. By offering options within the uniform, students can mix and match the casual uniform daily, allowing for freedom of expression within acceptable boundaries.

  • Once enrolled at Crawford Pre-Primary, do I have to re-register for Preparatory and College when my child moves from one phase to another?

    Yes, parents wanting their child to start the academic year with Crawford International must re-register annually. You will not need to pay an additional enrolment fee.

  • Is diversity important to Crawford?

    Our ethos and essence are built on mutual respect, diversity, and inclusion. We embrace and respect all cultures and genders in our diverse student and teacher population. We recognise that it is our differences that unite us together and not only our similarities. We celebrate each other’s beliefs, religions, and value systems, making our learning community truly unique.


ACADEMIC QUESTIONS


  • Which curriculum does Crawford International follow?

    In Grade 1 – 7, Crawford Preparatory Schools offer the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme. The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme is an internationally recognised and rigorously integrated programme in which inquiry into local, regional, and global perspectives are embedded in all teaching and learning. Crawford International collaborates with the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) to bring world-class education to our schools and further enhance the Crawford International offering.     In Grade 8 – 12, Crawford Colleges follow the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) curriculum. Grade 12 students write the IEB examination as their final matric examination. The IEB is accredited by Umalusi. Umalusi is the quality assurance body in South Africa which moderates examinations and marking procedures; and issues the National Senior Certificate (NSC). The NSC is recognised by all South African universities and most international universities.

  • What is the International Baccalaureate PYP Programme offered at Crawford International?

    The International Baccalaureate Programme followed in our Preparatory Schools is recognised as an integrated programme focusing on global perspectives in teaching and learning. The International Baccalaureate is an international curriculum framework that enhances the rigorous academic programme already offered at our Preparatory Schools. Crawford International was recognised as an IB World School offering the Primary Years Programme from October 2020.

  • What languages are offered at Crawford International?

    At Crawford, we prepare our students to be changemakers with a globally competitive edge, and encourage them to learn a new language. Students can choose between the following additional languages (depending on their school of choice):

  • How are children with barriers to learning accommodated?

    Our on-site support centres assist our students where necessary and offer the following (depending on your school of choice): 


    Access to an educational psychologist

    Occupational therapy

    Physiotherapy

    Play therapy

    Speech and language therapy

    Remedial therapy

  • Do students need iPads or any digital devices?

    At Crawford, we help students develop essential 21-century skills and enable them to navigate, analyse, and create using various tools across multiple platforms. iPads are used to enhance learning. Grade 0000 – 3 students have access to banks of iPads, while students in Grade 4 – 12 will need their own tablets with access to Wi-Fi.

  • Does Crawford International offer extra lessons, if needed?

    Yes, our staff and subject specialists offer additional support and enrichment wherever needed.

  • What makes Crawford International different from other private schools?

  • Is Crawford International focused on academic performance to the detriment of sports and cultural achievements?

    At Crawford International, we give our students every opportunity to develop holistically. In addition to our exceptional academics, we also offer comprehensive and highly competitive sports and cultural programmes, where students can participate in as many different activities as possible. This plays a vital educational function to the all-round development of our students.


APPLICATION PROCESS QUESTIONS


  • How do I enrol my child at Crawford?

    If you are an existing Crawford parent, you will receive an email with a link to STASY and an easy-to-follow How to Guide. You will also receive an SMS to notify you that re-registration is open. Parents can click the link in the email and follow the prompts, or simply log in to the Parent Portal and click on the re-registration pop-up.

  • Can I submit the application form manually at the school of my choice?

    All applications must be completed online through the Crawford International website. If you experience any difficulties submitting your application, please ask the admission staff at your Crawford school of choice for assistance.

  • How soon do I need to apply for a specific academic year?

    Spaces at Crawford International are limited, so it is best to apply as soon as enrolments open in September.

  • Is it compulsory for the prospective student to attend the interview and assessment in person?

    It is preferable for the student to attend the interview and assessment in person. If the student is applying from overseas, arrangements can be made to have the assessment sent to the student’s current school to be completed. Interviews can also be arranged via Skype or Zoom.

  • Can I take a tour of the school during an open day?

    Crawford International hosts open days throughout the year, which offers a wonderful opportunity for parents and students to see the school and meet with the principal, deputies, staff, teachers, and students. School tours are also available during the week, during term and school holidays, at a time suitable for prospective families.   • What religion do Crawford chools subscribe to?

    We are a co-ed, non-denominational school with a rich cultural diversity that embraces all students. Our approach is designed to challenge and strengthen each individual’s special qualities. Many of our students who would like to follow a particular religion explore these possibilities outside of the school environment, at their selected place of worship.

  • Why does Crawford International not have a traditional uniform?

    Crawford Schools has a unique approach to uniforms that allows for freedom of expression and individuality within acceptable boundaries. Rather than a uniform, we have a ‘multiform’ that encourages students to make personal decisions around what best suits them as unique individuals. By offering students a choice when it comes to their uniforms, we allow them to practice their decision-making skills on a daily basis.

      No the boarding fees would be an additional charge. You can find the fees on our fee schedule here

    • Do students need to share a room when boarding at Crawford International North Coast?

      We offer comfortable semi-private and private individual rooms at Crawford International North Coast.

    • Do students have access to Wi-Fi when boarding at Crawford International North Coast?

      Yes, students have access to Wi-Fi when boarding at Crawford International North Coast.

    • Do teachers supervise homework for students boarding at Crawford International North Coast?

      Yes, all students boarding at Crawford International North Coast have access to supportive boarder-teacher mentors who guide our students throughout their learning journey.
